Crinum campanulatum, Water Crinum; Marsh Lily; Vleilelie, is an aquatic species needing roots in permanent or semi-permanent water in order to flower. This is a spring to summer flowering species, with up to 7 showy white, light pink funnel-shaped flowers that fade to deep pink-red - fewer flowers than the other species. Flower stalks are up to 1 m and plants flower best in sunny conditions. Leaves grow up to 50 mm high with narrow, strap-shaped or deeply channelled leaves. Plants can be evergreen in permanent water, or deciduous when planted in areas that are dry in winter. C. campanulatum is endemic to a small region of the Eastern Cape. Listed as Rare and Near Threatened – at risk from water pollution.
