The Yellow Mallow is an attractive medium-sized shrub with an attractive branching habit where they stand out and curve gently upwards to form a neat, rounded shape. Small, shiny dark green leaves grow along the length of each stem and are roughly textured with scalloped margins. Lemon- yellow flowers open on a sunny day, fading to red-orange towards the afternoon before falling off. Plants flower for much of the year, with a flush in spring and autumn, and few winter flowers. A fresh batch opens each new day. For those familiar with the exotic Hibiscus, the flowers of this local species are small, only about 3 cm in diameter. These pollen-dense flowers are visited by a variety of insects. Propagate via semi-hardwood stem cuttings in autumn or spring, or from seed sown in autumn or spring.
