Description

This ground-cover is an extremely pretty species of Plectranthus, quite different in leaf shape and colour to the rest of the family. Low growing, between 5 and 20cm high, the leaves are round to oval, dark to bright green with conspicuous silver veins. The undersides of the leaves are a red/purple. The typical Plectranthus flowers are white and appear on the plant from February to June. Prune after flowering, and before Spring to prevent it from becoming too leggy. Propagate it from cuttings but it should seed itself quite easily. It occurs naturally from Oribi Gorge area to Uvongo along the KZN South Coast, in the dappled shade of coastal forests close to rivers.
