This lovely, light foliage shrub has a variable growth habit; usually attaining a height and spread of 1- 2 m, in Kloof it often reaches 2.5 m, while in harsher areas, in shallow soils and dry conditions, it will remain a small shrub of 1m. It has an upright form with a few slender branches covered in leaves. Flowers (August/ Sept and on and off through the year) are mixed shades of purple and an important flower for the carpenter bee. Will grow in winter and summer rainfall areas, sun, light shade, moist and dry soils, though will produce fewer flowers in the shade. Frost hardy. Trim (in autumn so as not to affect flowering) to maintain a neat shape alongside a pathway or in a narrow space. Can plant close to walls and in paved areas.
